There aren’t many pro wrestlers who command the level of respect Kurt Angle does. His 1996 Olympic gold medal victory with a broken freakin’ neck is impressive. Even more impressive, Angle pulled it off just months after his wrestling coach was murdered. The 2014 film Foxcatcher was about creepy multi-millionaire John du Pont, who funded the U.S. Olympic wrestling team and murdered his head coach Dave Schultz.
Kurt says Shultz was like a paternal figure to him, and that Shultz had indicated the only reason he was staying on the farm with then-unraveling Du Pont was to continue preparing for the ’96 Olympics with Angle.
